Hello TCF!
This is a busy week for us all I'm sure, as classes are wrapping up and exams are quickly approaching. That also means that Christmas is coming soon! I have started to get excited for Christmas, so I hope you can enjoy some of the things included in the Opening Sequence. We are also still asking for volunteers for Reclaiming Christmas events, so please look below for details, and also check our page for Reclaiming Christmas on the lefthand sidebar.
Please take a look at our News section as we are continuing our daily prayer on campus, we would like everyone to feel free to join in! You can find out who is leading and where it is by going here. We are on Week 1 schedule for daily prayer. There are a lot of volunteer opportunities in our Bigger World section, so please take a look at how you can become involved in the community. If you would like to contact any of the exec, you can go here to find their email addresses. There are also some ads and community events so please look at our Community Ads section and our Bigger World section.
I would like to encourage you all to read the present Constitution (found on the left hand side bar) to find out more about what TCF's structure and vision.
Have a great week everyone!

Opening Sequence
Angelic Laughter:
Divine Reflection:
Inspired Word:
Isaiah 55:8-12
8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the LORD.
9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.
10 As the rain and the snow
come down from heaven,
and do not return to it
without watering the earth
and making it bud and flourish,
so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,
11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
12 You will go out in joy
and be led forth in peace;
the mountains and hills
will burst into song before you,
and all the trees of the field
will clap their hands.

This past Friday we had the privilege to host Atlantic in Concert at the Great Hall. Whether or not you were able to make it out, please take a look at the photos, which you can find here:
Open House: Pancake Dinner and White Elephant
Our next Open House will consist of a pancake dinner and a White Elephant gift exchange. For the White Elephant, we ask that you bring something you don't want, whether you re-gift is up to you, or you can purchase a small gift worth between $3 and $5. Please make sure that the gift is WRAPPED. The location will be emailed out, and if you would like to attend but have not received the email, please email us at trentchristianfellowship@gmail.com. We will be meeting at the regular time of 7 pm. Please try to fit in the last Open House of the year 2010.
Reclaiming Christmas
Reclaiming Christmas is a reality! There are many, many ideas, so we ask that you please take some time to check the website for information (click here: Reclaiming Christmas). You find contact information for different events and activities on the page. Also, please consider helping with candygrams, we are trying to collect thousands of miniature love letters from God, Bible verses, or words of encouragement for members of the Trent community. You can join those who are leading daily prayer to also help with these. We are collecting them by December 5th if possible.
Men's Workout Group
A message from Chris Conboy about something exciting starting up:
This is an invitation for all men interested in working on their
body while sharing life, struggles, and victory as followers of Jesus in
the process. Its remarkably important to meet regularly, and there are
numerous to strengthen, encourage and challenge one-another,
looking-after ourselves spiritually, mentally, and physically. Paul of
the New Testament urged the church in Rome to give their bodies as
living sacrifices, being the temple of God's Holy Spirit, which
translates to being an act of authentic worship to God. The goal is to
be practical and real in our pursuit of the meaning of life, everyday
living and walking life in community that honours God and one-another.
I meet regularly with two other men, Peter and
Bryce, and others come less frequently at Trent's Athletics Complex. We
generally work out three days a week, normally Tuesday, Thursday and
Saturday, and it would be great to have you join us. If you're
interested, you can contact myself at christopherco3@trentu.ca or Peter Belfry at peterbelfry@gmail.com
to find out specific details. I'm also aware that some of you may have
friends in Peterborough who don't go to Trent, but may be interested in
this kind of thing, but may not be able to come out due to financial
reasons. Depending on available time and your expressed interest, we'll
also look into possibility of meeting outside of Trent's complex for
those people, perhaps going sledding, hiking, biking, and playing
Ultimate Frisbee. Looking forward to seeing you there!
Message from our Evangelism/Outreach Coordinators
Jenn Knight and Chris Conboy have been getting a lot organized for TCF. A great desire of theirs is to connect members of TCF to the community in service. If you would like to get involved in the community in some way but aren't sure how, contact Jenn or Chris (or both!) and they would love to meet with you to talk and discuss different ministries that you can get plugged into. You can email Jenn at sunnfyre@hotmail.com and Chris can be contacted at christopherco3@trentu.ca.
Daily Prayer on Campus
This is our third week that we are having daily prayer on campus (during the week, Monday to Friday). You can go here: Daily Prayer to see the leaders and room locations. We are currently on Week 1 schedule for prayer. Our goal is to have 2 people per day praying between 1 and 3 pm each day. If you are interested in joining in prayer, Monday to Wednesday and Fridays you can meet in BL 107.1. On Thursdays prayer will be happening in the Champlain Music Room. It is a great opportunity to meet with God and to cover the university in prayer and love. If you are interested in being involved email Jenn at sunnfyre@hotmail.com or Sam at trentchristianfellowship@gmail.com.
Testimonies and Prayer Requests:
Have a testimony (a short life story detailing some faith experience) or a prayer request that you would like to put before the community? If so, please contact us via email at trentchristianfellowship@gmail.com so I can send it to the group! If you wish it to be anonymous or to have only your first name sent out, just say so!
Bigger World
Invitation from Amy King:
Hi

Volunteer @ the Bridge:
Hey there awesome TCF people!
Just want to let all of you know about a great opportunity to volunteer with Youth For Christ/Youth Unlimited here in Peterborough. We have programs for kids (ages 8-13) and youth (ages 14-25), so whichever group you relate to best is fine with us! Our goal for the youth we work with is spiritual transformation through Jesus, and we labour towards this end through various programs where we build relationships with kids, care for their needs holistically, build trust, and earn credibility to speak Truth into their lives. From there, we aim to funnel them into mentoring relationships (one-on-one and gender specific) and what we call “Places of Discipleship”, where they can grow deeper in their faith. If this sparks your interest, or if you have a passion for kids/youth and for serving Jesus in a tangible way, please get in touch with us. The children and youth of this city need role models LIKE YOU to take an interest in their lives and point them to the hope that is found in Christ! You can contact either Carlo Raponi at carlo@youthunlimitedkaw.com, or Melanie Shepherd at melanie@youthunlimitedkaw.com, or phone and ask for either of us at the Youth Unlimited office (743-2900).
All for Jesus!

International Tea and Coffee House (ITCH)
An informal learning centre, an International Coffee House attempts to meet the language learning and social needs of international newcomers to an Eastern Ontario community, Peterborough. I have been a host family coordinator for international learners at Trent University. I presently have the role of program planner for the international Coffee House. Community members are volunteers in this program and it is answerable to the governing body of a local church and to the committee of organizers itself. I am associated with the New Canadian Centre and the International Coffee House is a volunteer-based organization affiliated with the Peterborough Partnership Council for Immigration and Integration as a member group.
This report informs the reader of the extent of activities and of the participants of the Coffee House. It is designed to address a concern that will be a concern in any community that is opening its doors to international new comers to Canada. It will demonstrate the need for informal learning opportunities, sometimes occurring along with formal in this city. I want to know how the informal learning of international students and newcomers, in conjunction with interaction with community members in an informal Coffee House affects English language proficiency in speaking and listening skills. How does the bridging of international students with fellow students as well as with other international newcomers and community members in friendship and association provide learning support for those involved in formal studies? How does friendship and association for international newcomers with members of the community promote increased cultural competence and comfort?
We examine whether these and other factors contribute to the growth and development of personal confidence for the international newcomer.

Big Brothers/Big Sisters
Big Brothers Big Sisters is currently seeking 15 Trent Volunteers to take part in our In School Mentoring Program. This program is a great way to give back to the community and to help out a child in need. All it takes is ONE HOUR A WEEK.
In School Mentoring is a small commitment that makes a big difference. Become a mentor to a child in a school environment. You will help build a child's self-esteem and school performance while having fun.
Each mentor will get a choice in what school they wish to mentor a child at and in most cases the mentor is able to choose the time of day that he or she visits the child in school. This is not a program based on academics but based on fun!
If you are interested in finding out more information or volunteering in this program please contact me directly at tammy.thomas@cogeco.ca or 743-6100 ext. 1 to get involved today!
